Arsene Wenger agrees two-year contract extension with Arsenal

"I'm proud having done this - winning the championship without losing and winning seven FA Cups", Wenger said.

According to the report, NAIJ.com understands that the former Arsenal captain was disappointed in Antonio Conte's decision to have kept him on the bench against his former club.

The 53-year-old ex-England worldwide also warned fans of the north London club who are upset at a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League that things could get even worse.

Wenger will feel like he's won the battle with the board to stay put, but he may end up being the loser after missing the flawless chance to bow out.

Despite his disappointment at missing out on the Double, Conte said Chelsea's feat of winning the Premier League with a record 30 wins meant it was still a season to savour.

He has yet to announce publicly whether he will be in charge at the Emirates Stadium next season, but did admit his future would become clear following a pre-arranged meeting.

"We already face a season in the Europa League - and things could get a lot worse before they start to get better".

It was expected the 32-year-old would endure a hard afternoon against the likes of Diego Costa and Eden Hazard, but instead Mertesacker was at the top of the game, leading Wenger to single him out for individual praise.

"The best presentation is to watch the game", he said. I don't think I could have done much more this season, it is the coach's decision and you have to respect that.

The 2-1 victory over London rivals and newly crowned English Premier League champions Chelsea came courtesy of Alexis Sanchez's controversial opener on four minutes, with Aaron Ramsey then heading Arsenal back in front three minutes after Diego Costa's 76th-minute deflected equaliser. "I'm here for whatever the team needs and I have shown that during the season".

The 67-year-old is also due to attend an Arsenal board meeting on Tuesday when the directors will be told whether he will extend his 21-year reign.

"The only way the board should have allowed him to run down his contract yet again is if they had private assurances from him that he was staying".

Do you ever have any question about anything you wish to ask and get answer?

Surely a Board that is so prudent financially would not have let it go this far unless they had inside knowledge of the outcome?
