JU's Michael Baumann goes to Orioles in third round of Major League Baseball draft

The 2017 Major League Baseball draft is nearly upon us.

Of the 30 Major League Baseball teams, 27 drafted at least one player from the ACC led by the Angels, Marlins, Yankees, and Rays with five apiece.

With their first three picks in the 2017 MLB Draft, the San Francisco Giants selected high school players.

The Gators had three players taken Tuesday - SS Dalton Guthrie (Phillies, sixth round), and a pair of catchers in Michael Rivera (Indians, sixth round) and Mark Kolozsvary (Reds, seventh round).

With the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 #MLBDraft, the Cincinnati #Reds select RHP/SS Hunter Greene from Notre Dame (CA) High School! The junior is known for his velocity from the mound, as his fastball reaches up to 96 miles per hour.

Went 5-5 with a 2.92 ERA (27 ER/83.1 IP) in 15 starts for Xavier University this season and led the BIG EAST Conference with 123 strikeouts.

"I talked to (the Cleveland Indians) and I'd been projected (as high as) the second round, but they took a shortstop (Tyler Freeman from Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.)", Serrates said. We'll keep track of the Yankees' draft pool spending right here between now and the deadline as best we can. Drew Rasmussen, RHP (#31): The right-hander from Oregon State was the 56th ranked player on Baseball America's pre-draft rankings.

While the 21-year-old southpaw wasn't on the top 100 prospects list going into the draft, Lowther may be a guy that exceeds expectations going forward.

Earlier this season, Lowther pitched eight innings with 16 strikeouts and yielded and gave up his only earned run of the game in the ninth inning.

Lugbauer, a junior from Pleasant Valley, N.Y., had a breakout power-hitting season, hitting 11 home runs and had 58 RBI. He was drafted by the New York Mets in 22nd round of the 2013 MLB Draft as a high school player.
